What triggers a rewire in Deal.
Rewires cluster around three points in a property's life. A 1960s or 70s rewire is now 50+ years old and the rubber-sheathed or early PVC cable insulation is cracking. An old Georgian or Victorian property is on knob-and-tube-derived early PVC with no earth continuity to socket outlets and mixed-metal joints hidden in the floor void. Or the owner is starting a whole-house refurbishment - new kitchen, new bathroom, EV charger, heat pump, PV and battery - and it makes more sense to rewire once rather than chase circuits piecemeal.

Full rewire replaces every circuit and the consumer unit. Typical Deal three-bed terrace or Walmer semi runs 6 to 10 working days depending on ceiling access and heritage-plaster reinstatement. Chased where the plaster is modern skim, surface conduit in listed-building rooms where chasing isn't consented.
Partial rewire replaces the highest-risk circuits - typically the ring finals, the kitchen radial and any bathroom lighting - while retaining sound lighting circuits elsewhere. Two to four days. Common on 1970s Mill Hill semi-detacheds where the lighting is fine but the sockets have been added to over four decades.

Key changes since Amendment 1: SPDs (surge protection devices) now required in most domestic installations, AFDDs (arc-fault detection devices) recommended on ring finals feeding bedrooms and social spaces on higher-risk installations, all final circuits protected by 30mA RCDs.
Rewire is notifiable work in England under Part P of the Building Regulations. As competent-person scheme members we self-notify Dover District Council. Building Regulations compliance certificate posted within 30 days, alongside the day-of-completion Electrical Installation Certificate.
