The clifftop reality.
Kingsdown sits south of Walmer, on the clifftop overlooking the Channel, edging the Kingsdown-to-Dover-Cliffs SSSI. The Kingsdown conservation area was designated 1970 and extended in 1994 and 2016. What matters electrically here is salt.
South-easterly winds carry chloride onto every exposed metal surface within a couple of hundred metres of the cliff. Standard IP44 outdoor fittings corrode inside two seasons. External socket faceplates go green. EV charger enclosures need marine-grade fixings not zinc-plated. Consumer units in unheated porches accumulate condensation and need annual torque checks on terminations. Every Kingsdown EICR includes photographing corrosion state as a routine record.
Common Kingsdown jobs.
- External IP65 replacement of failed IP44 fittings.
- Consumer unit relocation from unheated porch to interior utility.
- EV charger install with a marine-grade, IP66 unit and stainless mounting.
- Landlord EICR with corrosion-focused schedule.
- Garden lighting rebuild after failed 12V transformer stack (salt kills them).
